The 15 day window for the basketball transfer portal is nearing its close. That won’t happen until another huge weekend of visits is set to take place across the league. Here’s the latest in the basketball transfer portal.
By the numbers
It took almost the entirety of the portal window but 25 percent of the total entrants have found their new home. That means 287 players have committed out of the 1,159 that have entered.
What does that mean for coaches and staff members?
The portal closing doesn’t mean their job stops in the slightest. Unlike the football portal that backs up to the start of the spring semester, basketball will have all summer to take visits and figure out the best new landing spot for them.
The deadline for the window closing is only for players to enter their name, not find a new home. Hopefully there weren’t too many assistant coaches planning on a summer vacation.
1A gets a piece from 1B
While the big names in the men’s portal haven’t decided to come to the SEC, one of the biggest names on the women’s side is transferring within the conference.
The two best programs in the SEC over the past two seasons have been South Carolina and Texas. Both have made the Final Four each of the last two seasons, and will now be trading key roster pieces heading into year three of the Longhorns’ time in the SEC.
Texas Guard Jordan Lee announced on Thursday that she will be taking her talents from the 40 acres to the 803. Lee averaged 13.2 ppg and 2.5 assists a season ago, and she will now vie for a starting spot alongside Tessa Johnson at guard.
BREAKING: Texas transfer Jordan Lee has committed to South Carolina, sources told @On3.
The 6-0 sophomore averaged 13.2 ppg, 2.5 apg and 1.5 spg this season.

Auburn on the board with fascinating prospect
As of Thursday, there were only four teams left in the SEC who still didn’t have a single transfer portal commit. One of those four finally got on the board, as Auburn landed one of the most fun prospects in the entire portal. Not only is it a fun name to say, but it’s one of the more intriguing prospects of the nearly 1,200 players currently entered.
Bukky Oboye from Santa Clara announced his decision to leave California for the plains. He’s a 7-foot-1 center who led the entire country in two-point percentage last season. He also may not be done growing. See Oboye is 7-foot-1, but he was 6-foot-4 just a few seasons ago before skyrocketing up nine inches.
Steven Pearl has done a tremendous job at retaining some of the key pieces from last year, and Oboye is a huge addition for a team that lacked size at times last season.
Very high upside bet here with Bukky Oboye.
If it all clicks he’s an NBA player.
Struggled to stay on the floor down the stretch for Santa Clara.
82% at the rim + the outside shot is smooth despite what the 21% 3pt indicates. https://t.co/V43xfuJDFP
