Saints 53-man roster projection: EDGE

Brett Davis

The lifeblood of the New Orleans Saints’ defense in 2026 may come from the edges of the defensive line.

With Chase Young set to lead the way at the position, the defensive end rotation will be one of the most impactful position groups on the roster.

Whether from disruptive play in the pass rush or by setting the edge in the run game, Saints edge rushers will affect contests in a multitude of ways, making the decision of which players hold a roster spot a substantial one.

EDGE Rushers – 5 (31)

This group of pass rushers gives the Saints an eclectic group with both overlapping and unique skill sets. It also brings together a blend of proven players and development potential.

Young, Jordan and Granderson all held this same role last season. Their dynamic and experience together should be beneficial in Brandon Staley’s defense hitting the ground running early in the season.

Meanwhile, Jennings and Wilson bring new options to the table. Jennings already fits as one of the league’s best run-stopping ends. Wilson, a former No. 7 overall draft selection, is hoping that a change of scenery, scheme and coaching will give him a new chance to showcase his potential after his first three seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The most notable exclusion from the group is Chris Rumph III. The defensive end’s infectious attitude and special teams contributions will put him in conversation for a roster spot. But ultimately, the numbers may work against him. The same could be said about second-year pass rusher Fadil Diggs and undrafted rookie EDGE Mike Heldman. But possible practice squad spots for each to battle could work in the Saints’ favor.
